IsabellaIsabella Mekker
Isabella is from Greenville, South Carolina but spent parts of her life growing up in both Germany and China. She is a student of Political Science at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts – where she is a member of the International Students Association and is passionate about International Politics. Isabella possesses dual citizenship of the United States and Germany and as such, experiences both cultures and languages at home. She wishes to pursue International Relations and Security after she attends graduate school. In working with the Atlantic Institute she was able to gain experience in peaceful change making at a grassroots level. She loved being able to see different religious, ethnic, and cultural groups within South Carolina interact with compassion and understanding of each other’s differences.
k watersKatherine Waters
Katherine Waters was born in South Carolina and is now an English and Philosophy major at Wofford College. After graduation, she wants to find a career that combines her love of writing and communications with anthropological studies. At Wofford, she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and recruitment counselor for the Panhellenic Council. She is also a staff writer for the school's newspaper, The Old Gold and Black, and received an award from the South Carolina Press Association for her writing. She loved working with the Atlantic Institute and seeing people come together despite religious, cultural or ethnic differences. Katherine believes that, in an ever-increasingly globalized society, it is extremely important for people to be able to learn from and understand each other.
