2011 Peace and Dialogue Dinner
Atlantic Institute's (formerly South Carolina Dialogue Foundation) first annual dialogue dinner was organized at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on October 13, 2011. The theme for the event was "1 Billion Hungry in the World: What is your Role?"
The dinner featured two keynote speakers. Dr. David Gandolfo of Furman University's Poverty Studies Program and Dr. Peter Cohen of Clemson University. Both speakers underscored dehumanization as a major obstacle standing in the way of addressing the issue of global poverty. Unless individuals can relate to poverty, initiatives are unlikely to yield favorable outcomes.
One of the highlights of the evening was Martha Schumpert's music performance. Ms. Schumpert's tunes inspired the audience to reflect on poverty.
