Borders, Peoples, and Major Powers in the Middle East
On Monday, October 10, audiences in both Greenville and Clemson participated in a learning experience about the Middle East. What is currently happening in the Middle East will impact our world for a long time. Dr. William E. DeMars, Professor and Chair of the Department of Government and International Affairs at Wofford College in Spartanburg, spoke about the past, present and possible future of the Middle East. Today in the Middle East, borders are being redrawn, new loyalties are being forged among peoples, and major powers are vying with local governments and armed groups to shape the future of the region. Dr. DeMars' presentation provided an historical perspective for considering contemporary events. During a lively question and answer session following each presentation, Dr. DeMars and the audience addressed specific events, attitudes and concerns.
